The warm weather and the littles rains  posibilited a Mediterranean   agriculture.

          

But were independent cities had cultural unity. They shared the lenguage greek, the same culture and a single religion.

There were various stages of Greece:

  The archaic time ( S. VIII - VI a.C. ):  Enchanced the Greek polis and they colonized the Mediterranean coast.

The Classic stage (S. V a.C.): Is the period of greatest splendor of the polis, as Athens and Sparta.

The Hellenistic Age (S. IV - II a.C. ): Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire and the Hellenistic kingdoms sprang.
